Weekly Assignment Overview
Note: You can see a common theme in the Morning Packets, Spelling Packets, and IXL work is TIME MANGAGEMENT! Students will, in these assignments, have about a week to complete these assignments, all that have consistent "assigned" and "due" dates (see below). 4th Graders will have the invaluable opportunity to manage their time in order to complete a task--as you all know, this is a life skill that does not go away!
✍️ Spelling Packets
Ms. McKaig will assign Spelling Packets on Thursdays. On the following Wednesday, the packets will be due, and the students will take a spelling test on those Wednesdays as well. The packet will be a homework assignment. We will begin with a packet every other week.
🌞 Morning Packets
At the beginning of each week, students will be given a "Morning Packet" of review work. They are to work on this packet first thing in the morning; these packets will be due to their teacher on that Thursday.
💻 IXL
Each week (on Mondays) the students are assigned several categories of language arts and math in IXL. These are review topics that have already been taught. It is intended for early finisher work in the classroom. Students are able to work on IXL from home, too. This is a non-graded, practice activity.
By Friday, the students who do complete/master each of the assigned skills will be rewarded with X amount of time to play a teacher-approved app of their choice on their school iPads that day during morning Homeroom.
✅ "Friday Folders"
Each Friday, students will be sent home with a "Friday Folder" containing any graded work, flyers, or missing assignment print-outs. Thank you for going through this with your student, applauding them for a job well done, encouraging them to ask questions on topics that prove need some help, & supporting them in completing any missing work.
On Monday of the following week, they are asked to bring back these folders--having been emptied, signed, and dated by a parent/guardian on the front cover.

Academic Policy Overview
🙋♀️🙋Absent Work Policy, from our school handbook:
Parents must understand that when children are taken out of school for personal reasons such as a special holiday or family vacation, teachers are not required to anticipate schoolwork or to provide early work for the child. When convenient, teachers will try to cooperate; however, parents may not expect this kind of service and are advised to make arrangements with another student to collect the work as it is assigned to the whole class. A "We Missed You" absent work packet will be ready for the student upon their return to school. All work must be made up, and it is the student’s responsibility to check with his/her teacher for missing assignments.
**The student will be given two school days for every one day of an absence to make up the missed work.
❓Missing and Absent Work Policies
Late Work Policy
When a student turns in an assignment late, there will be a 20% deduction in their grade. We will accept late work for up to two weeks past the original due date. After this point we will no longer accept the work.
